How to further optimize the thermal performance of ATX case is always the direction where the top gamers chasing for, so we have been thinking about how to design a distinctive ATX case in which the thermal performance can be significantly enhanced. In COMPUTEX Taipei 2014, we introduce Jonsbo’s new product: W2.
The innovation of W2 is its sub-compartment design, it moves the traditional front HDD bracket and PSU to the back, thereby narrowing the distance between the front plate and rear plate, and so reducing the air resistance and noise after installing HDD, therefore the overall thermal performance can be further improved.
W2 continues the tough and top designs, it further optimizes the outer aluminum with inner steel structure, besides XL-ATX standard and 8 PCI slots are supported in order to have strong expansibility. Moreover, 280mm radiator can be installed in the front plate, so whether it is used to build an excellent air cooling or split-type water-cooling system, I believe W2 will be your good choice.
Because of competition and differentiation of business promotion, the most basic 3 elements, materials, workmanship and price, are often be ignored, especially the material aspects will even be deliberately avoided. The cost of materials can easily increase the total cost of production, how to let users choosing a product with reliable materials does not seem to be an easy job. So we introduce in the first part of introduction to let users have a clearly understanding of the material used of W2. The internal structure of W2 is made from 0.7MM SGCC steel with all-in-black process, the thickness after processing will be over 0.8MM. The outer shell is made from 2MM thickness high-quality brushed and anodized aluminum plate. After brushing the thickness of the aluminum will be reduced about 0.1-0.2MM. In order to reduce the resonance phenomenon, 1.5MM thickness labor intensive cushioning materials have been pasted on both sides of the structure of W2. (Note: For the thickness of steel plate, we believe 0.8MM is the best; 0.6MM is the most reasonable thickness; for server 1.0MM or above is commonly used; for low price case the thickness is generally below 0.5MM after baking varnish.)
Industrial design ideas about appearance:
With continuing of the tough design of W1 and the changes in aspect ratio, W2 will be significantly more thickness and vigorous. By using 2MM thickness brushed and anodized aluminum plate, W2 seems to be full of metallic texture.
Design ideas about hardware:
The innovation of W2 is the design of sub-compartment metal structure, it move the traditional fixed HDD bracket and PSU from front plate to the new space among back plate, thereby narrowing the distance between front plate and back plate, reducing the wind drag and noise problems caused by HDD bracket, and further improve the overall thermal performance. In additional, it further optimizes the structure of outer aluminum with inner steel, in such a small space high scalability 8PCI slots XL-ATX motherboard can be installed, and 280mm cooler is supported on the front plate. No matter it is used for excellent air cooling system or separated water cooling system, we believe W2 will be your good choice.
About hardware support:
After getting a lot of good appraisals for W1 from mass media and professional users, as the second product of W series W2 was announced in 2014 COMPUTEX. For size only increased by 1/3 comparing with W1, W2 changes to support ATX or even XL-ATX motherboard instead of ITX motherboard supported by W1.
About cooling system:
There are many examples showing that dust can cause bad contact between motherboard and RAM and even damage motherboard or cooling fan. It is easy to overlook the importance of dust preventing, but it actually is very important for extending the hardware life. For dust preventing, W2 is doing very well. There are dust filters for two 14CM fans on front panel and for two 12CM fans on base plate and PSU. Besides, innovative magnetic dust filters have been used, they can be easily removed for cleaning frequently.
There are 1.5MM thickness cushioning materials built-in both sides, they totally resolve the problem of resonance problem between the side plates and body of W2. Moreover, the speed of 3 professional fans can be switched among low, high and stop. Furthermore, there is even a cushion equipped for PSU, sp we believe W2 is much better for controlling the noise comparing with similar type of cases.
